James Moore

James Moore, a self-taught sculptor, has always been deeply interested in art and the natural world. Growing up in Texas, he spent many summers with his grandparents in rural environments, where he developed a passion for observing and drawing wildlife. This interest led him to transition from a career in technology to a career as a sculptor.

James believes viewing wildlife in their natural habitats is crucial in understanding their habits and gestures, so he splits his time between California and New Mexico to take advantage of the diverse wildlife viewing opportunities.

His sculptures aim to capture the blend of realism and abstraction that one experiences when observing wildlife. Each piece is a wall-hanging collage of elements, including miniature animal sculptures, textured and painted wood panels, cast bronze or silver figures, and various materials such as stone, glass, wood, or metal.

James is also collaborating with Sandy Keller, who adds more depth to the pieces by using 30-50 layers of acrylic glazes and paints applied to the wood panels.
